Let us start with definitions:
We have all heard or experienced a “counter”; to make a counter offer on a home, countermeasures for security, to counteract against something to help neutralize effects….I think you get the point. We “counter” to place things into our better interest, or at least what we perceive to be in our better interest. It is fine, we all do it and for some things we are glad we do, anyone who has suffered a computer virus knows the hassle and damage of not having your security countermeasures in place.
What I want you to think about is the areas in your life you might be missing “encounters” because you are so wrapped up in what is best for you and “counter”ing offers and situations. Are you missing opportunities for fellowship, finding new perspectives, a great adventure? Are you looking an encounter right in the face and already thinking up your next move to counter or get out of a situation you don’t see beneficial to you? Think of the potential you could me missing out on.
I have had grand encounters in life; from a homeless woman in Oxford, UK to blowing my car alternator in the middle of nowhere, ND. I have learned lessons, met great people, heard amazing stories, and in my own right become a better person because of it 🙂
Slow down and experience your encounters. Really listen to others before countering, you may hear something that changes your perspectives in life. Choose encounters!
